Revitalize Your Singing Voice with These Effective Retraining Techniques

ree

I would say the biggest challenge for me musically was retraining my singing voice. For my entire life, since I was six years old, I have sung every song the same way and composed music in the same manner. That pattern continued until about five years ago, when several seasoned music mentors took me under their wing and shared some music truths with me. From them, I learned that you can be musically talented but still have your growth stunted.

Guided by their advice, I began learning to sing my songs in different ways. For example, I tried singing in lower ranges to mix things up and experimented with varying the pace. I also explored throat singing, vocal runs, scat singing, genre bending, transposing songs to a different key, and adapting my phrasing, dynamics, and word annunciations. And that is just the singing—it has really helped a lot. My new work reflects the knowledge I have gained. That was a game changer, as was the mentorship in music production.

It’s never too late to learn!
